Attaching the Goods of Amos Gaits of Stirling
Outstanding 18th century legal writ from Worcester Massachusetts, dated July 30, 1793.
In the Name of the COMmonwealth of Massachusetts, you are required to attach the Goods or Estate of Amos Gaits of Stirling aforsaid Yeoman, to the value of Four Pounds and for want thereof to take the Body of the said Amos (if he be found in your precinct) and him safely keep, so that he may be had before me Edward Bangs Esq; one of the Justices of the Peace for the County aforesaid, at my Dwelling House in Worcester...
The document is partially pre-printed, then filled-in with fountain ink. Signed by Edward Bangs. The paper is a (typical for the period) rag-type, with an exceptional watermark. There is also an applied diamond seal, in the upper left corner.
Measures appx. 7 3/4" Wide by 8 3/4" Tall.
Condition is Excellent, with No Rips, No Tears, No Foxing, No Stains, Minor Soiling, Only Two Major Crease Folds. Note: There is a small hole in the document's lower left corner.
